Google Maps Feature Idea — How Far to Fill Up?

Travelling to new places is fun and exciting, but I always get paranoid about running out of gas in an unfamiliar place when I’m on a long journey.

During a ten hour road trip on Monday I thought about how convenient it would be if, given Google Maps knows my starting and end points, it could recommend the ideal places to stop for petrol.

The feature could be relatively simple to use: input the distance you want to maximally travel between fill ups (say, a conservative estimate of how far you could go on a tank of gas) and Maps recommends the ideal places to stop to fill up along the way.

Users could rate stops (food options, toilets, comfort, etc). You could probably reduce your travel times through a more efficient schedule, or make sure you only use stops that meet certain criteria (say, stops where the toilets have 4 or more stars).

The data is all there already. This would be a cool way to make it more useful.
